Support for all Children at Thorndon CEVCP School

Success for all through; learning together, aiming high, celebrating difference and working as a community.

We are proud to be an inclusive school; all of our children have access to quality education. We aim to recognise the needs of all of our children and to work in partnership with their families to help them achieve their full potential. Our pupils have told us that our school is calm and caring with enthusiastic and supportive staff, and they find their learning fun!

We regard inclusion as crucial.  This means that all children with SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) are taught together with their peers for the majority of the time, being withdrawn for short periods only when specialist provision cannot be incorporated in any other way due to practical considerations for the child and the class as a whole.  As such, Thorndon School does not discriminate against chidlren on the grounds of race, gender or ability.

Inclusive education helps young children form positive ideas about others.

James Vink Coordinates support for children with special educational needs and/or disability.  Mr Vink can be contacted either by telephoning the school office - 01379 678392. If you are already a parent at the school pop in at the end of the day for a chat.

The links below provide you with information about our approach to special needs. Our SEND policy is also available on the school website.

If you require any further information you are very welcome to come and talk to us about your child.

Accessability: The vast majority of Thorndon School is accessible by wheelchair users.  However any further adaptations required for specific pupils are made as and when necessary.
